Guest gornall Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 There seems to be some confusion at my Ford garage as to when to change the timing belt on my 1.9 Ghia diesel. Some thought 60,000, some said 40,000. It was done at 40,000 to be safe. My friend's galaxy has done 50,000 and hasn't had it replaced yet. My prevoius Galaxy was a 60,000 interval . Any ideas? Quote
tim-spam Posted January 5, 2006 Report Posted January 5, 2006 Pre-facelift - 60,000 miles. PD engine - 40,000 miles. Quote
seatkid Posted January 6, 2006 Report Posted January 6, 2006 All TDI/PD fitted with automatic gbx are 40,000 miles. Anyone notice the kerfuffle over on HJ's forum? One thread has HJ touting a rumour that VAG has decreed that all cambelts must be changed at 40,000 miles/4years. Another thread says that VW now say that cambelt changes on latests models (~2005 on) now no longer require their belt changing ever! It appears HJ has pulled this thread. He often pulls threads/edits other peoples posts on the grounds of "possible legal actions". Typical of HJ - complete tosh spoken most of the time but good for a larf when its spoken with so much conviction. VAG - Contitech lifetime timing belt article Before you get too excited, bear in mind that the majority of cambelt failures (IMO) are brought about by failure of another component e.g. tensioner, rollers, ancillaries etc. Quote
